Yesterday, Hearts of Montage sponsored the release of two California sea lions, “Lilac” and “Cactus Rose,” in conjunction with the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. Cactus Rose was rescued on May 4th by San Clemente Animal Control at Cottons Point.She weighed 27 lbs. After 11 days, Cactus Rose started eating and gaining weight. Lilac was found in San Clemente on the State beach on May 7th. She was laying underneath one of the lifeguard towers. Lilac was rescued by lifeguards and brought to the center by Pacific Marine Mammal Centers rescue team. Lilac weighed 28 lbs. After eight days she started eating fish and gaining much needed weight.
