Yesterday, I attended the Catalina Jazz Festival for the 26th time in 27 years - and it was a day that reminded me so much of why I started enjoying Catalina Jazz so much to begin with. Complementing the expectedly excellent set from the great David Sanborn (Come on, this is Sanborn!), I was really energized and excited seeing a full show by 21 year old saxophonist Vincent Ingala - whose funky, fresh and fab mix of originals and creative covers of old school classics roused everyone to their feet. It was exciting to experience this young talent - and he plays guitar and sings too! Talking to him on the main drag in Avalon and later Dwight Sills and Sanborn on the way to the boat reminded me of the day when artists would hang the whole weekend. Fun time!
