Yesterday I closed the final chapter to 8 years of living in a silent world. A world where I simply lost all means of communication except for texting and email. I became a hermit never leaving my house with the exception of taking and picking up my gkids for school and to the grocery store. My home with my 6 furry babies became my refuge from a world I no longer fit into. A little over a year ago I became determined to find specialists that could help me. I went to John Hopkins and was immediately accepted into their Cochlear implant program and was scheduled for surgery there in August but my ins. co. made them transfer me to an in network facility which UVA is. My first appointment at UVA was November 7 and things happened very quickly from that point on. My surgeon called with a slot he could fit me into yesterday and I was ready!! First implant surgery COMPLETE!! I will be hooked up after Ive healed which will be sometime in January! My doctor - Dr. Bradley Kesser and the entire surgical team st UVA is beyond amazing!! I could not be happier with the whole process!! Thanks to my son Aaron for taking me and staying there the whole time. Soon I will be my version of normal and will have a new journey! A journey into interaction with people again and actual conversation!! I cant wait!!
