Yesterday I finally left the water world of Bemina where I have - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I finally left the water world of Bemina where I have been living with my sister in the second story of her house. Her ground floor is still covered by about an inch of water. I started my day by paying a visit to my friend and classmate Dr. Qayoom Dar at SKIMS. Then I took an auto rickshaw and had the driver drive me to Butchiwore cemetery via Ali Jan Road, Nalamar, Khanyar and Naw poor. After saying a prayer at my Mom and Dads graves I went by Gupkar Road to the Boulevard. At the entrance to Oberoi palace from Boulevard, where Shaw Sons have a showroom, you could see that water had gone into their shop. That means Boulevard must have had at least six feet of water. We turned left to go to Nehru Park. At the bend, the road was still under water so we decided to turn back. I finally had the driver drop me off at Zero Bridge and decided to walk on foot on the Bund. There was a large breach in the levy near the Zero inn. There was another one behind the DD studio, a couple behind the emporium gardens. Near the GPO there was a almost a fifty foot breach. There were breaches behind the Gridleys (now J&K) bank, before the Suffering Moses building, State Bank and where Premier used to be. The breach near Abi Guzar was the scariest where a house boat had been thrown on to the Abi Guzar road. Then there were breaches behind the Christian cemetery at Sheik Bagh and a large one behind the old high court building. On the other side of bund there was a large one just before Presentation Convent and just past the LD HOSPITAL. The river had just flown over the right bank at Goni Khan and Hanuman Mandir on the left and at Budshah bridge on the right bank. I walked down into Maisuna here and walked up to Kokar Bazaar and saw the water mark way upto the second story of the houses. Many of these homes will need to be condemned as they look badly damaged. Looking at what is left off of the Sher Ghadhi palace, the water mark shows that it must have been flowing way into its first floor. At Gaw Kadal I turned right and walked along the bund all the way to Barbar Shah. Here the water must have been flowing backwards towards the Dal when flood gates were opened. The bund was badly breached at many places. The marks left behind by the water show that the water was way into second story in most houses around SP college area. On the western side there was a large breach near Mandir Bagh flooding that neighborhood and Basant Bagh. I crossed Barbar Shah Bridge and went by Now Sadak all the way to Habba Kadal. Here the river had just over flown its right bank but most flooding was done by waters from Baba Demb. As I crossed the Kani Kadal towards Karan Nagar, except for Karan Nagar every place was dry. I must have walked about seven or eight miles. I will try to post the pictures when I get a decent Internet connection.
