Yesterday I finally went into Five Leaves Bookshop to order a copy - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I finally went into Five Leaves Bookshop to order a copy of Sheenagh Pughs Short Days, Long Shadows, only to discover that they had a copy on their poetry shelves - so I was able to take it away with me. Im still at the stage of browsing in it unsystematically but have been moved by much. At the moment I keep returning to Later, Skeleton and Footnote, and I think that some of my Quaker friends would be particularly appreciative of The Open Door. I hope Sheenagh wont mind if I show some of the poems to first-year students, particularly Footnote because of the way it uses different kinds of rhyme (barely noticeable until the final, devastating couplet) and The Viceroy of India for its effective use of the word thing. You can find two of the poems here (plus one from her Later Selected Poems sheenagh.wix/sheenaghpugh#!poems/cdsc If this makes you want to buy the book, Im sure Five Leaves can help East Midlands poetry-buyers (and its poetry bookshelves are good for further browsing). Friends elsewhere who may wish to boycott Amazon but dont have a local bookshop, you can also buy directly from Seren, the publisher. serenbooks/book/short-days-long-shadows/9781781721568
