Yesterday I finished my first ever Crossfit Games Open. While I didnt make it to regionals or give Rich Froening a run for his money, I did challenge myself and did things I never thought I could do with this body of mine. Over the past year of training, Ive lost and kept off 60 lbs from when I thought I was my fittest (and over 140 lbs from my fattest) and can do crazy things like hand-stand push-ups, double-under jump ropes, rope climbs and chest-to-bar pull-ups, for 10, 20, and even 30 minutes at a time. I feel amazing and, dare I say it, look fantastic! And Ive made some of the best friends Ive ever had in my life and joined a family I love dearly. I personally attribute this to crossfit because this sport aligns very directly with both my strengths and my weaknesses. I have always had trouble pushing through sucky tasks and finding joy in process, and Ive always had issues with my diet. Crossfit helped me understand how to manage both. It also plays into my never quit core and rewards me daily with new achievements and goals for tomorrow. Its not for everyone - but there IS something for everyone. Cycling, running, yoga, water polo, it doesnt matter. Theres something for you that will align with your core personality and get your body doing what it was meant to do: MOVE. I hope you find yours, because I want you to be as happy as I am having found mine.
