Yesterday I got myself involved in several discussions on the use of shock collars. You might as well bring up politics or religion :-} Same level of emotion. These days I find Im happiest just doing what I do and helping others who want to learn how to train in positive, effective, force-free ways. Ive been immersed in the Dog Sports Skills books and in teaching at the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy. I only speak up when I think its possible that people on the fence may be listening to the conversation. Arguing with others who feel as strongly as I do is a waste of time and oxygen! I dont despise people who use these devices. I know that many of them feel they have very good reasons for doing so and are comfortable with what they do. And I know some of them are really very nice people. I just happen to think that what theyre doing is not in the best interest of dogs, ever. Thats my personal view and Im allowed to express it. But I dont want to alienate or demonize folks who make that choice. I do, however, hope that someday they change their minds. :-}
