Yesterday I got to thinking about the last time I took a deer with a gun. Could not remember it for the life of me but Im guessing it was about 14 years ago. So on a whim...I broke out a 50cal Black Powder gun I bought YEARS ago from someone but never shot it...just put it away in the gun safe. It was a CVA MagBolt 150 and I grabbed up a bunch of BP supplies and headed across the road to my buddy Charles Hollands gun range. I quickly weighed up a few of my custom loads and snapped a 209 primer to clear the breech plug. Then I charged the rifle and set up for the first shot. SNAP-POP ...nothing. I tried another primer and Nothing! :/ SO i took the rifle back home and proceeded to tear it down. The breech plug was fouled and I refurbished it and reassembled the gun with a little help from my brother Charles. (I had the spring backwards) LOL Reloaded the gun and BOOM...short range shot was not bad....next shot was a long range shot and about 9 inches high and to the right. Adjusted it again and 3rd shot was about 4 inches high and dead center. I adjusted it again and called it for the day until I could get the gun cleaned. I will sight it in and may use it this week if I get the desire. Ive seen a TOTAL of 3 deer since the bow season opened....1 in range which I killed and 2 at long distance. I need to get the freezer loaded and though I really would prefer to fill it with my bow like Ive done for the last 14 years....Its time to make something happen and I have this itching to break out one of my guns for some reason. Looking for a valid excuse! :D
