Yesterday I had a fun afternoon guiding a gorgeous group of 8yr - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I had a fun afternoon guiding a gorgeous group of 8yr olds on how to read nutrition labels. And when I asked them how they planned on creating a healthier world, some vowed that they would go work for the big food companies and start to pump out healthy food instead of junk, others said that they would go to work at the chocolate factories and sneak in vegetables in the middle of the chocolate when no one was looking! Gosh they made me smile! Its up to us as parents to educate our kids, start these conversations or pick up the thread if they are inquisitive. The key is to do it in a fun and non-confrontational way, share information in way that they can relate to and understand. In our workshop the kids became detectives and investigated 5 different pacakged food products and figured out all the reasons that the ingredients were detrimental to their health. We then made home made choc chip cookes to compare to the store bought ones, and kale chips to compare to the ingredients in the cheezels. They loved them! The link to my healthy choc chip recipe is in the comments for you to enjoy. Bren x
