Yesterday I listened to Collapse Into Now for the first time in - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I listened to Collapse Into Now for the first time in ages. I cant remember the last time I did. I reckon it would have been late 2011 or early 2012, not long after the band announced it was splitting up. Anyway, the point is that when I was listening to it yesterday it made me feel sad. Theres a couple of reasons for this; the first is that the album came out when I was going through a bad time in my life. The second is that of course, it was to be the guys last studio album they would make together. And of course, none of the songs off the album were ever performed live in front of a paying audience and probably never will be by them. What are your thoughts on the album? When I played it for the very first time I was pleased with it because I thought this was the best thing theyd made in a long time. Some tracks like All The Best, Mine Smell Like Honey, and Alligator... would have been great live and wouldnt have sounded out of place on an album like New Adventures In Hi Fi. (I like that album). There were also some tracks that had a real melancholy feel to them. In particular, It Happened Today, and Walk It Back. Especially the latter. Ill admit that I cried along to that song a few times. All in all I think the signs were there that they were getting ready to quit (Everyday Is Yours To Win, Marlon Brando..., and Blue). After they released each of the last three albums I kept thinking that each one could be the last. But being the respectable professionals that Peter, Mike and Michael are they saw out the bands contract with Warner Bros. before making that important decision.
