Yesterday, I participated in the IDT (interdisciplinary team) for Hospice of Cullman County. You may not be aware that we do a very large amount of Hospice work, and I also serve as a pharmacy consultant for Hospice of Cullman County. Cullman is blessed to have several good Hospice organizations. One of the things that makes Hospice care different is its team-approach to treating patients. Yesterday, we had a group consisting of nurses, a social worker, a chaplain, a physician, and myself taking time to review high-needs patients. This collaborative approach not only helps to identify problems, but quickly solve them. In the end, patient care is better! Hospice says they are a special kind of caring and I agree. They do a great job of helping the family shoulder the burden of caring for a dying love one.
