Yesterday I saw an important but disturbing show at Manhattans Neue Gallery (East 86th @ Fifth Ave) Called Degenerate Art: the Attack on Modern Art in Nazi Germany, 1937 the show highlights some of the surviving works of German-Jewish artists (Klee, Beckmann, etc) whose art was denigrated and destroyed by National Socialist regime, even as Hitler championed work by artists who touted the official Nazi Party line (also shown.)
