Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon at the King County Courthouse as the plaintiff in a small claims case. We went into mediation (highly encouraged by the Court) and came to no decision -- back to the Court where we sat and listened to another case. While that was going on, I turned to the defendant and her attorney and asked to talk some more and we did. We finally ended up settling the case by me getting a store credit for what I believed I was owed -- win-win. After the other party had left the mediation room (we went back to the mediator to formalize the settlement) I told him that perhaps it was sick but that I really had had fun. In thinking about this some more, I really did have fun with the whole thing -- from deciding what documents/fact I needed to prove my case to game-planning the case -- what were the strengths, what were the weaknesses, what were the known - unknowns, going through presentations, etc. I had a lot of fun with this. And I guess thats why Lynne is so glad I quit practicing before we met. So, OK, FB peeps -- was it sick of me to really enjoy the whole process as much as I did?
