Yesterday I thought I would put my toe into a discussion on freedom of speech on Facebook but I ended up being draw into a cesspool of ill informed claims and sometimes unbridled racism. there were the holocaust deniers ;those that claim that most murders in the world are perpetrated by blacks; those that claimed that all Muslims are responsible for rape in Australia and yet all under the guise of free speech and the threat that is posed by 18c. I think in fact what I had discovered was the Facebook septic tank peopled by those that George Brandis encouraged in parliament when he declared that all Australians have the right to be bigots! He is right of course , we do, in free speech terms...but in moral terms I would guess not, as my experience yesterday revealed.
