Yesterday, I took my adopted daughter and son Ree and Aaron Cabay, the newly marrieds, on a trip around wet, rainy Los Angeles. We had lunch in the oldest Mexican heart of the city, El Pueblo, and Olvera St, then drove through the Skid Row area down by the rescue missions, Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Philippinotown and then walked around Los Angeles First Church of the Nazarene, my old haunts there. In the evening we went over to Shirley Akers home and watched the Seahawks trounce Carolina, and observed Shirley in her expressive moments of ecstasy which we munched on pizza, salad and nachos. Its so much fun to introduce novices to places that I have so connected with in the past and to share stories and contexts that provide color commentary.
