Yesterday I traveled all day. Doing good things for others - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I traveled all day. Doing good things for others happened TO me rather than BY me, and I guess that should be part of it too. On Friday, I wrenched my back out lifting a heavy wooden chair and carrying it across a classroom to work with a little girl, avoiding hitting anyone in the head with it. One of the aides, a big, burly guy, noted how heavy the chairs were and at my lifting. I continue to think Im 25, so I didnt think much about it, except that there began to be a radiating discomfort in my lower back as the day went on. Yes, you guessed it, I messed up my back. I was scheduled to leave for West Yellowstone the next morning (no refunds or changes on AlaskaAir), so I decided to stay in a hotel near the airport that had a park and fly deal where you get cheap parking if you pay more for the room, up to 7 days. Well, I was going to stay 9 days, so it would be good. By the next morning, my back was KILLING me, I could hardly turn over in bed. I went downstairs and got pain meds and took them. By the time it was time to leave I felt better -- but only better. When we got to the airport, there was a line that stretched back to Terre Haute (Christmas Story) for security. I was still in a lot of pain. After ankle surgery, I had benefitted from being wheeled through security and to the gate, so I finally thought of that and went to them to beg a ride. They were fully accommodating. I bought the gal who wheeled me a Starbucks and gave her a tip, explaining what had happened. She was happy, and fixed my ticket so that a wheelchair would also be ready at the other end. At the other end was a young man from Somalia who was a student at U of Washington who wheeled me on this LOONNGG path through terminals and onto the underground shuttle to another terminal, where he dropped me off at a nearby rest room. I also tipped him. I dont know whether wheel people around people are supposed to get tips or not, but both of them were so helpful and I was so grateful. I boarded the puddle jumper to Bozeman, Montana, where my friend Michael picked me up and drove me to my present location in West Yellowstone. We were met by four beautiful pedigreed kitties that are Michaels children. He cooked me dinner. Sometimes its not about you GIVING 3 Good Things, but about RECEIVING, with gratitude, 3 Good Things. I was grateful to be the recipient of 3 Good Things on this day. :D
