Yesterday I visited the home of Sheikh Nuh Ha Mim Keller. He told me he agreed to meet me only due to my interest in Islam and modern science (sic!). He also invited me to a hadra the next day. Unfortunately he did not permit me to take any photos. So today I was at the hadra. I had to stand in the circle. It was in accordance with the Shadhili-Darqawi tradition and very intense, more intense than in the link below (an example only). It was certainly an experience for a shy Swede. The hadra was followed by a short lecture of NHM Keller. The group around shaykh Nuh consists of perhaps 400 persons who all live in the same neighborhood, close to the zawiya, the location of the hadra, and also the home of Sheikh Nuh. After tea and discussion I went with a friend from Syria to a delicious Turkish restaurant. In the evening to a crowded and excellent Palestinian restaurant with former student at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies Michael Degerald - now a PhD-student at the University of Washington in Seattle. Fantastic to meet former students and hear about their current lives. After the meal we took a nice walk to the market at Rainbow street. Not a bad day.
