Yesterday I was at Stater Brothers. I was waiting at the restroom as it was occupied. This young man, maybe 20, staggers towards me and the bathroom. He was carrying an unopened bottle of wine. His hair and face had clumps of mud and weeds stuck to them indicating that hes probably not slept in a bed for sometime. He attempted to go into the bathroom but it was locked. I told him that it was occupied but I dont think he even realized that I had spoken to him. He staggered towards the wall I was standing next to. He stood there for about a minute swaying back and forth. Then he walked away towards the produce section, using those heavy deliberate steps that we are all too familiar with. It was sad, that young man was me not so long ago, but with 657 days sober today I am truly grateful that I found the rooms and this fellowship. God is good.
