Yesterday, I was in tears most of the day, as the ICU nurse talked - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, I was in tears most of the day, as the ICU nurse talked to me about thinking about taking Tim off of life support... I couldnt wrap my heart around this... Last night I spoke to the neurosurgeon who performed the operation on Tim a week ago, and gave me a complete synopsis from the beginning to now. He explained that Tim had a very large stroke... on his non-dominate side. They tried to wean him off the ventilator yesterday, and could not. They want to put in a tracheotomy, and feeding tube to make it easier for him, and because the swelling in his brain has stabilized, and he is able to respond to simple commands, like squeezing the nurses hand, and moving his toes... (on his right side) he can do this. The next complication set in yesterday, and that is hes developed pneumonia and spiked a high fever last night. Today it is not as high. The doc said if we can get him through this crisis... he feels Tim could have a chance coming back with long, extensive therapy. He felt he will never have use of his left side again. But with stroke patients, improvement comes over time. It doesnt seem as bleak or grim as yesterday.... Tim is still critical, and truly this is all in Gods hands. I pray for peace for all of us who know and love him... and there will be no permanent brain damage. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for all the prayers said on his behalf, and the love I feel from all of you. Thank you so much.
