Yesterday I was speaking with a relative who was waxing lyrical about his great love of horse-racing. When I mentioned we may one day meet at a race track with him watching and me protesting he patiently explained But if it wasnt for horse racing, there wouldnt be any horses! I patiently explained back: These horses are bred by humans to make money. The moment theyre not running fast enough to be potentially profitable theyre shot. This can happen either before or after any planned racing career. Theyre not living long happy lives. Thats just a romantic notion. He was atypically quiet for a while.
