Yesterday, I was walking back through town after I finished work & there was a group of guys stood chatting outside Wetherspoons. One of the guys was holding the lead of a very large, muscular bull breed & I heard several passersby saying that he looked ugly & vicious. The dog just wagged his tail at everybody. I asked the man if I could say hello to the dog & he defensively said Yeah, hes friendly! I pretty much always ask if its ok if I speak to a dog, no matter what the breed or size of the dog - I would prefer to check, rather than put a dog in a situation in which he or she is uncomfortable & risk them snapping & getting in to serious trouble. It is NOT a reflection of my perception of the dog. Anyway, this very unusual looking dog, with pale blue eyes, was friendly in a calm, reserved way. His guardian explained that he is a 4 year old mountain bulldog & that he is a great dog, really well behaved & intelligent. I fully understand that some people are scared of dogs & that some big dogs can look intimidating - but why say, audibly, that the dog is ugly & vicious looking? If the dogs guardian genuinely loves the dog this is upsetting & hurtful &, if the dog was selected as a status dog, all you are doing is reinforcing that decision. cdn.pedigreedatabase/pictures/1017290.jpg
