Yesterday I watched the last half of the U.S. Open tennis final - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I watched the last half of the U.S. Open tennis final between Serena Williams, who won her 17th major title, and Victoria Azarenka. Besides their excellent play, I was struck by the sheer brilliance of the commentators. These guys are so good, and are so professional that I kept the sound on even though both players were grunting up a storm. When the shot is being played, they shut up and let the action take over. Then, between shots, the insights and relevant information just flows off their tongues. They know the sport, they stick to what matters, and it is obvious that they have done an extensive amount of homework. If the commentary for pool was this good, it would surely have a big impact on the number of viewers. But it takes money to get the best, and to have them take the time to prepare like the tennis commentators do. The important lesson is that tennis has set a standard that pool can strive for.
