Yesterday, I went back into the trenches. I had not been in a long time. Thankfully our trainer, Ryan Newman, went with me and he helped me navigate through the kennels with purpose. What I saw was heartbreaking. Things are not better - in fact they may even be worse than they were before - but it reminded me as to why we do this. One thing remained the same, and that was Janet at the East shelter. That woman is just amazing to me. I have nothing but love and respect for her. She cares so much. She keeps dogs alive so much longer than anyone else does. I see what she does to save them. Yesterday they had NO help. I watched Janet fill water bowls, clean kennels, walk dogs AND try to run the shelter itself that was completely full with multiple dogs per kennel. If I could give anyone a humanitarian award at this moment, it would be her. I love you Janet Aviles to the moon and back. Thank you for what you do to try to help them.
