Yesterday I went to Alcatraz. Yes – the real Alcatraz prison. Im rather afraid of the pitch dark, and claustrophobic – its something Ive carried with me since childhood. So when the guard asked who wanted to be literally locked down in The Hole ..aka: Solitary, for 90 seconds with no light, I thought well – certainly not me! But then I figured – hey, I tell you guys to face your fears and find the courage to do what you need to to dissolve them and become more courageous – so in the end, I stepped inside and this is the last thing I saw before the doors and windows locked shut and we were in unfathomable darkness. I felt the fear rising – and then I just closed my eyes and allowed myself to be in meditation as I have done so many times before. Regardless of how restrictive or locked the space around us feels, we always have a rich inner world of peace and trust to guide us to freedom and keep us safe. I know it was only 90 seconds – but it seemed much longer. Next time fear comes, remember this inner sanctum you have, even when it feels like theres no way out. All my love to you – Sadie
