Yesterday I went to church, a new church, and due to happenstance - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I went to church, a new church, and due to happenstance or Providence or whatever else you want to call it, they were doing a service following a small organizational convention on inclusiveness and multiculturalism. The reading was a scathing, intense piece about how people, groups, proclaim to be welcoming and loving, but only for certain groups. If youre not one of them, then... youre not going to get as much of a welcome. I burst into tears hearing that, because it touched on an inner rage that I did not dare to even acknowledge, the righteous anger and disappointment of a soul who has done everything right, immigrated legally, gotten a green card, and is still ultimately an outsider in the US, even after nine years. It was good to be validated. It was good to see people grow thoughtful about all the tiny ways theyve excluded someone from their fellowship due to selfishness that they were unaware of. On the way home, I saw a young man holding a sign, his dog sleeping at his feet. Sleeping in the Woods. Need Food and Wet Wipes. I went home and looked through what I had, put together some sandwiches, trail mix, boiled some eggs and filled a soda bottle with clean water. When I went out to look for him, he was gone. I dont know where he went. I can only hope I spot him again so I can try to help him. I dont pray, being the kind of person who chooses to meditate instead, and I turn my thoughts towards action in trying to make the world a better place. But if you do pray, pray that he finds a safe place to go before winter comes in the South. Pray that he gets to keep his dog, faithfully lying by his side in the hot and the cold and the wet. Pray for him. Im going to keep some sandwiches in the fridge and bring them out on errands in case I spot him again.
