Yesterday I went to my favorite Asian market, Bang Luck. As if - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I went to my favorite Asian market, Bang Luck. As if that name were not enough to endear this establishment to me -- what luck could be better than Bang Luck? -- this smallish Vietnamese emporium in nearby Reseda boasts an ever-changing selection of items that delight. The inventory is different every time, yet some things remain constant: the butcher always has cow legs, the frozen food section reliably stocks banana leaves, the fruit section never lacks for durian. The seafood section is full of marine life I simply dont recognize, and theres tamarind soda by the door. Its an adventure, a voyage of discovery, a journey to the Far East in miniaturo. I discovered Bang Luck while hunting Raw Meaty Bones for the dogs. There is no bone greater than a cow leg. I use chopsticks to poke out the super-rich marrow (to avoid pancreatitis), and I have each leg cut in half, otherwise its bigger than the dogs. This time I had them cut into four pieces, to see if the dogs still enjoyed them. (They did, but not quite as much.) Beyond cow legs, Bank Luck is my go-to place for rare treats for the dogs. Heres this visits haul: cow legs and fresh green beans in back, banana chips and dried anchovies in front. The dogs enjoyed the bones and the beans for Sunday dinner. Well try the banana and fish, in tiny amounts, sometime this week. Yum! Incidentally, none of these are sourced from China, and all are a fraction of the cost of dog food. Onwards!
