Yesterday I witnessed humanity at its best. I saw people come together like I cant say Ive really ever personally been a part of before. Made friends, exchanged stories, smiles, laughs and tears with complete strangers and got to see a collection of the finest football coaches the state of IL has to offer all rally together for our buddy, Tim Nelson. I saw people give not only their time and their money, but most importantly they gave their support and love to anyone who may have been in need of it. Not only Nelly and his family, but I personally saw other people who were either battling with cancer, or had a loved one battling it or may have lost someone to it. There was always someone to not only lend an ear, but offer a hug and pray with them. It was a beautiful thing to be a part of. Now, Im nothing special. Im just a dude who happens to sing country music and when Nellys brother Paul Nelson III called and said that of all people he could have sing at his benefit, he wanted me, I was honored, humbled and there was no way I was going to turn him down. Nelly, I love you for not only the opportunities you have given me, but for being a great friend, positive role model for my son, and someone who, even in a time when you should be stepping back and taking more time for you and Casey Scott Nelson, you continue to give more of yourself to not only help teach kids the game of football, but you are providing them with lessons in life that will remain with them forever. Thank you for allowing me to be a very small part of such a wonderful day that I will never forget.
