Yesterday Jan. 14, 2015 was the turn-over of 16 permanent housing units in St. Peters Community Sta. Catalina. That was were I met Estrella! She was an OFW, a cook in the Middle East. When the MNLF attacked, their house burned and she fled with her daughter and mother wearing only the clothes they had. They eventually transferred to PTSI were she participated in our camp dialogues. This day was a special day for her and 15 other vecinos. They returned to new permanent homes. The keys were given by the NHA after the blessing. With a big smile she brought me to her home. What I saw- was Gods assurance and providence. A single mother who raised a daughter to finish nursing. Their former status-IDP did not prevent her from starting over. She used her skills to cook, sold food, saved money, and made use of every earning to rebuild. She is thankful to all who helped as she now has a cabinet full of clothes a gift from the generosity of those who shared. We enjoyed her spaghetti. Truly we Rejoiced: BUILD BACK BETTER TALAGA! Outside the community shared meals. The Columbres brothers had 2 popcorn loads to share. They are back selling popcorn in Fort Pilar! Gracias a Dios y la Virgen Pilar!
