Yesterday January 18, 2015 was the hardest day of my life. My mom lost her battle with cancer. I had spent the last four days at my parents house to be by her side. I could have never asked for better parents. They never made a lot of money, yet managed to pay for college and grad school for me - through their own sacrafices. My parents house had an open door policy, where there was always an extra bed and meal for any of my friends in need. They were both animal lovers, which meant I could bring home any stray I wanted and find it a home. They were tolerant of my addiction to motorsports...which meant when I turned 16 they were never able to park in the garage again. They tolerated my Harley with drag pipes when I turned 19 They never lost faith in me and saved every newspaper clipping of my career accomplishments. .And, my sister who has her PhD gave them bragging rights beyond belief!!! I spent a lot of time crying before her passing until I found my miracle. My dad NEVER left my moms side...period. During her surgery he stayed at the hospital. When she was home he took care of her. At 77 years old, I watched him pick her up and cradle her in his arms to take her to bathroom. He never stopped holding her hand or kissing her cheek. As we spent time together those last few nights he told how he fell in love with her. As she lay dying, with both of us holding her hand, he was kissing her forehead calling her his fancy lady and his princess. My miracle was seeing my parents so devoted to each in unconditional love...what more could their child want. I am blessed. Besides her family, my mom loved Boston Terriers. If you have a minute, go to the Thornridge Funeral Home in Dalton IL website where you can see the obituary she wrote for herself. She named all her dogs there...I cried ..then I laughed!
