Yesterday Sebastians Action Trust CEO Jane Gates and Chief - TopicsExpress

Yesterday Sebastians Action Trust CEO Jane Gates and Chief Development Officer Caroline Holton attended the latest members’ meeting of the Council For Disabled Children (CDC) in London. Following 2 years of consultation, debate and local authority testing, the Children and Families Bill was finally passed and became an Act of Parliament. The Act will introduce a number of changes to the way disabled young people and those with special educational needs (SEN) receive support going into the future. The key changes include: • Giving parents and young people control over the decisions about the support they are given. • The introduction of Education, Health and Care plans in replacement of Statements. • Personal budgets for parents and young people to carry out their EHC plans • A requirement on local authorities to provide a Local Offer which will include the education, health and care services The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) has provided government with policy advice and support as the Bill has progressed through parliament and has played an integral role in the consultation and dissemination process that has contributed to the development of the Act. The Act will take effect in September 2014 and CDC will continue to provide support and advice to the sector through implementation. This is a massive step forward for the families that we support and Sebastian’s Action Trust will always continue to look to influence change in policy that improves the lives of families with seriously-ill and disabled children.
