Yesterday, September 8th, the eleven-member New York City Council Committee on Public Safety, chaired by Councilwoman Vanessa L. Gibson of the 16th Council District of Bronx County, convened a hearing topic: Oversight: The Police Department’s Plan to Enhance Officer Trainings. NYPD Commissioner William Bratton gave testimony, in which he states his plans to revamp NYPD training procedures. Council members of the Committee on Public Safety asked Commissioner Bratton many of the right questions and received some unexpected, puzzling answers, such as being against removing the application of a chokehold as a method of restraint.
