Yesterday Texas Heritage Trails staff and volunteers had the privilege of touring Texass newest state park property, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park (Strawn, TX), with park superintendent John Ferguson and the Texas Forts Trail Region. Some thirty participants caravanned on steep ranch roads lined with hardwoods and mesquites, with beautiful green vistas and lake, paralleling the route of historic Palo Pinto Creek and the old T&P rail line. This park, situated a few minutes off I-20 between Fort Worth and Abilene, is planned for recreational use: hiking, camping, RV camping, cabins, group lodge, fishing and swimming, equestrian, birding, picnicking. But only if the state appropriates sufficient funding to build this infrastructure. Take a virtual tour, below, and Texans, urge your state legislators to support this and all our state parks: https://flickr/photos/barbarabrannon/sets/72157644251164277/
