Yesterday, Uzazi Village completed its 5th Perinatal Doula Training. We trained two Community Doulas; Dana and Kimberly and four Sister Doulas; Ayanna, Lakeisha, Kelly, and Bethany. In two weeks, we celebrate their graduation with 5 certifications: birth doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator, breastfeeding peer counselor, and reproductive health counselor. Our graduates may now add the credential CPD to their signature, Certified Perinatal Doula. Whether they will be working out in the community or through our Sister Doula Program, we welcome them to our family of doulas. Together we will begin to shift the way care is given to families of color in Wyandotte County, KS, and Jackson County, MO, the county with worst outcomes for African-American infants in KS, and the third worst county in Missouri. Who is ready to take our July/August training? We have nowhere to go but up. The harvest is ripe, and the workers are few.
