Yesterday VOA arranged a cleanliness campaign at District Shopping Complex, Ranjit Avenue, Asr & managed to clean right side of the common area & road. Area was full of garbage & reflect the attitude of the shop owners towards cleanliness of the surroundings. Area is crowded with branded food joints like Bake & Beans, Subways, Aura & other beauty saloons Lakme, Majik hair saloon as well as Media offices also. But it was shocking that inspite of advance request to all these shop owners & staff for participation in this cleanliness campaign, no body deemed it necessary to participate. One more disturbing fact was elite class of Amritsar visit those showrooms but no body points out about the garbage lying outside these showrooms. We have become immune to these things & have started taking dust, pollution & garbage filled surroundings for granted. These things donot disturb us nor motivate us to do something to change them. One More shocking thing was that Improvement Trust Amritsar has deputed a temporary contract worker for cleanliness of the area at a meager wage of Rs 1000/- per Month. Its shocking that even Govt authorities are not abiding by the provisions of Minimum Wage Act. Well designed market has been converted into a garbage dump with heaps of garbage scattered all over the common area. AIT should make efforts to involve Market Association to keep this area clean & showcase this most commercial & happening area of Amritsar. AIT can impose CAM charges (Common Area Maintenance Charges) to upkeep & clean the common areas like varandas, area in front of showrooms & parking lot. Just constructing & collecting House Tax is not the end of responsibility for AIT. #swatchbharat
