Yesterday (Wednesday October 15th) soldiers from The 1st Battalion - TopicsExpress

Yesterday (Wednesday October 15th) soldiers from The 1st Battalion Welsh Guards Battle Group gave up the chance to go white water rafting, diving, mountain biking or on safari, to help put something back into the communities that have done so much to support them and other British soldiers while training in Kenya. The Soldiers put their interior design skills to the test by painting the Al Falah Islamic school in Isiolo Kenya. Al Falah School has both Muslim and Christian teachers and students and is a model of intercultural harmony. By volunteering their time and services on projects like this in Kenya the British Army helps to build the bonds between the British and Kenyan governments. Members of the Battle Group along with Imam Asim Hafiz, the Imam for the UK Ministry of Defence, then visited Pepo la Tumaini Jangwani school and health centre. Pepo la Tumaini Jangwani School takes in children, many of whom have been orphaned after their parents died from the AIDS virus. All too many of these children have unfortunately been born with HIV themselves, posing an added challenge. The arrival of the British Army and the Imam was a special highlight for the children and they took great pride in performing some Kenyan songs for the troops, which all enjoyed. The Welsh Guards, well known for their own musical prowess, were unanimous that the childrens performance was of an exceptionally high standard.
