Yesterday a dear friend of mine that came to our Christmas party - TopicsExpress

Yesterday a dear friend of mine that came to our Christmas party says, Leslie, thank you so much, so much for inviting us cause your Christmas party, well, it felt like Christmas. It meant a lot to hear that and then Ive had so many that have expressed the same thing. Why do we do this Christmas party? Its actually quite a bit of work and some years Ive thought about just not. Except its one time before Christmas where we do celebrate Christmas as a big family. It really started when we moved to Germany and Christian was 2. Away from family we had our military friends that became family. I grew up with a big family on both sides and I grew up with close family that have its ups and downs but were still family. I also grew up with big holidays and the importance of traditions whether new ones or old ones passed on. I realized that many of my Christmases were spent with my Grandma Austin. She was 95 before she passed away reading a romance novel but she brought to me tradition. I never realized how lucky I was or how much from the past I took with me for having a Grandma that could tell me about it. Sometimes things from her past I felt living with me, things she loved, lessons we all learned but she lived and understood. So I looked around me and realized there were many I could share this with and I started the Herman Christmas Party. Now, the first year Santa came in a suit that needed help, LOL a Christmas laugh and memory we love to this day cause we call him the Redneck Santa cause the suit wasnt quite the suit. So it was a success and the kids and their eyes lighting up, the big gathering of love all around. The suit got polished for the next year and Santa has looked sharp since:) With my family on both sides music is always apart of our lives. I grew up with a mom who played the piano....something else I took for granted. We sang all the time. So I brought it in. Through the years many of these friends who came started planning their month to be at this party. Why? Because its not a social event its in our home and home should always be warm. Its a family event and that is what Christmas is to me. Some years our party is big and some years its quaint, but were always here and we do this each year because its what family does and its being together making memories that brings the Christmas Spirit alive...
