Yesterday a reporter from our local paper interviewed me about the Peoples Climate March. His editor insisted that he ask me what kind of car I drive, how do I heat my home, and do I recycle to lower my carbon footprint. I may have shocked him. I said: Who cares?!? At this point the crisis is so severe that it really doesnt matter what one individual person does in his home. We need massive structural changes in how we get energy. To believe we each just need to do our part and everything will be ok is another form of climate denial. We will see what he does with that. When he asked what we can and should do I said: 1. educate yourself--spend time learning and dont shy away from global warming info. 2. find others who are also concerned about the climate--support, encourage, teach each other. 3. lobby for a fee to be placed on all greenhouse gases with the revenue distributed to households in the form of a monthly check to help pay for the inevitable rise in energy prices. Thats what Citizens Climate Lobby is all about.
