Yesterday after breakfast at Grind, (after an oops on Saturday the coffee was back on track and delish) Mrs Claw decided to do an inspection and recci in and around the strip to see what was new, hip and happening. She had heard a rumour about a new shop called Meat or Meet and she was determined to find out which it was, as both words brought up interesting concepts in her mind..... She, together with friends without benefits and furkids in tow, set out down the drag. First passing the empty shop next to Yia Yias which is soon to be the new venue for Silver Spoon. This being an excellent move cause now Stephanie and Dieter can be seen at street level and Mrs Claw doesn’t have to trek up the stairs to visit their delightful workshop and shop....So watch this space for more of this another time. Crossing the road towards the soon to open Zorba’s (opposite Cafe Rouge) their inspection showed that the progress here is at last surging ahead instead of being at a full stop which it was for a while due to planning permission delays. George and Rob can be seen daily checking out the progress here. Diagonally opposite is a new shop called Furniture Hospital. This is a very interesting, ecclectic shop which while not appealing to Mrs Claw in any way whatsoever, will definitely have huge appeal for many. During the 70’s claw couldn’t wait for that era to pass as she was no fan of anything pertaining to anything be it fashion and decor or music (except perhaps for Abba) and that is the reason for her reluctance to find this shop appealing. The delightful owner – can’t remember her name, tells them that she is a renovator of houses as well as furniture. Do go and have a koekeloer at her shop which you are sure to find fascinating whether you are a fan or not. This shop is housed in the old Laundry of a bygone era (a year or two ago) Mrs C is not telling you too much about this shop as you need to visit and see for your self..... Now this is an eye full, Meat on Stanley which is not yet open but looks ready to operate as soon as there has been a meat delivery, claw feels could be a real winner. It is impeccably kitted out with all the latest gadgets including a wonderful espresso machine incase you want to have a coffee. They are also stockists of delightful imported Mediterranean goodies, pastas, olives, oils and all the usual deli stuff. In addition to this, they also stock local deli goodies. If the meat is as good as their predecessor Stanley Street Butchery, this shop will be a winner. At the back there is a really cool little courtyard which will serve some kind of food, not sure what yet. Now for a quick trip beyond the curtain (boerewors for far away and koeksuster curtain for those a bit closer to town – before 5 ways) but not too far away, Sue and Alf Lamson will be relocating their wonderful shop Lemon Tree Interiors. This is to be situated in 1st Avenue Walmer where the old Glanville Nursery was originally situated, and then after stuffing up the beautiful site by chopping down all the trees, (so the birds became homeless) the next owner opened a restaurant which claw can’t remember the name of. This will be a real destination shop for the locals, as many silly people are still nervous to go to Central. When they hear she lives there they always ask claw “is it safe’’???? to which she snorts ‘’what do you exactly mean by that’’??? It should be noted here that Mrs Claw did not use one four letter word in this post. Have an amazing, awesome day........
