Yesterday after the rally for #HumanRights and #CivilRights for - TopicsExpress

Yesterday after the rally for #HumanRights and #CivilRights for the #Palestinians in #Toronto, I got a surprise taste of what it feels like to be bombed. Even though what I experienced was miniscule in scale and cannot truly be put in the same category by any means as the current carnage of #Gaza, things were quickly put into perspective for me of what it could REALLY feel like and look like. My minivan was a ticking time bomb due to faulty work done recently when the back trunk was replaced. Family members told me they smelt smoke and something was burning. I quickly pulled over which was also a blessing because we were on the highway a minute before. It is the grace of God that my entire family got out just seconds before the back window completely blew out. I was standing directly in front of the glass and had literally just moved away to inspect the vehicle from the side when it exploded. It is the grace of God I was beside the car and not in front of the window... I cannot imagine bombs being dropped on civilian populations like in #Palestine right now. Have we lost our humanity, our minds or all of it? When I made the video, I was shaking. I learned 4 things: 1) Bad things happen in an instant. Your life changes... 2) When something destructive happens directly to YOU (e.g. Palestinians) it becomes personal and only YOU truly know how that feels like. 3) I have TREMENDOUS #RESPECT for our #FirstResponders including mall security, the #fireDepartment and #police who all came to #help 4) I live in the best country in the world, #Canada! I got help. I got justice. Other parts of the earth have none of this. Ambulances are being shot and bombed in Palestine right now! That is unthinkable here. How can this be true in 2014? #WOW #Oppression and #Injustice is colourblind no matter where. More people, artists, activists and ideas need to get involved to create social awareness for a moral world and help write the wrongs. People cannot give when they arent given. This is basic. I was a person too. But when I became the other, I became invisible, as my rights, my existence and my future... -studentasim #Toronto #Canada #GazaUnderAttack #Gaza #Palestine #IsaelApartheid #Israel #bomb #family #911
