Yesterday afternoon, “Places You Love” called an emergency - TopicsExpress

Yesterday afternoon, “Places You Love” called an emergency meeting to discuss reports that our new Prime Minister is being pressured to hand over federal environment laws to the states. We (Places you Love) invited several journalists to the meeting, and our concerns were reported far and wide, including in the Guardian Australia, Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian. The government is negotiating with big industry right now, so we need to let them know that we are watching and will stand up for the laws that protect the places we love. Momentum is building…we need you to email the new Environment Minister, Mark Butler, and let him know how important this issue is for you. By making our voices heard, we can compete with big industry and let the Minister know that we want our national environment laws protected. Premiers in QLD, NSW and Victoria are already attacking our national parks and weakening state planning laws. It is clear that state governments cannot be trusted to protect the places and wildlife we love. With your help, earlier this year we were able to show our political leaders that the federal laws that protect the places we love are too precious to handover to the states. We need your help – together, we can stop this again. Thanks, The Places You Love team Places You Love is an alliance of Australian environment groups.
