Yesterday afternoon the sun was out and it was warm. With shovel and hoe in hand I went to my vegetable garden that to be honest with you has been neglected for a while. Overgrown with weeds, frost damaged vines, green tomatoes knocked from the plants from heavy rains scattered about, it was time to tend my garden and tuck it in for its winters sleep. Weeds came up easily from the soft soil. I discovered a small patch of carrots that remain, a row of lettuce untouched by the frost and a row of swiss chard that will fight its way into winter. I am grateful for my little garden plot, even when it doesnt get the attention it deserves. It is like a friend who you have not been in touch with for a long time, but you look that person up..spend a few moments...plant a few seeds and it is renewed and flourishing. I am grateful for the many gifts from my garden..in the form of vegetables, and as a place to feel connection.
