Yesterday, almost every city in America painted its town green, reveling in the celebration of Irish traditions and custom -- Likewise on Cinco De Mayo and the Italian Day parades. Yet, on any given day, a simple utterance of black pride mutes even the most liberal rooms in this great nation. You may second line to jazz music until your soles erode. But the moment you impart vocally the origin of your culture in your chant, you are immediately labeled a race baiter. It suggests, in other words, one has a right to be proud of his or her rich African-American heritage, but privately and equally quiet. I hazard to say this, in large part, is why black kids are forced to grow up against odds of which they havent control. Their survival under these inhuman conditions depends on their ruthlessness or an ungodly act of kindness. Phil Robertson gave the most important speech on race relations in America with his controversial sermon. He implicated he may have had a shitty job in the cotton fields, but at least he doesnt wake up black in America.
