Yesterday as I put away Christmas Village at our house, I was feeling a little sad, remembering how much my boys loved all of it when they were young; and how different it is now that the two younger ones are 17 and dont seem interested anymore. Then I got thankful, cause I realized everything I was packing away in those two boxes were all things I had gotten for them, to make their lives special, to make the holidays more interesting/enjoyable. I realized that over the years it was my hands that had wrapped the Christmas gifts, driven to Toys R Us to get their gifts, and my caring that made it a nice holiday for our family. I realized that even though those years when they were little and it was more fun for me to watch them be excited, happy, that their dad and I had set the stage for good memories, meaningful times. My oldest son, Gregory, commented first this year on the tree looking nice. Yesterday I thought about all the Christmases when I was a child and realized its not about someone showing a lot of thanks for what I do as a mom, its that Im doing what really needs to be done. Sometimes that isnt cookies, sometimes it is. For each family it will be something different. Ive read that some go surfing on Christmas day. For some its skiing. Lets remember to love people more this year, for where they are now, and help them to get to where they are going/growing. My thanks and love to all the parents out there, the stress of gifts under the tree is over, lets enjoy our families now, and relax in Gods love for us and the time we have together.
