Yesterday at Living Way Church I was able to share this passage as we dedicated Sophia Kate to Jesus. I didnt think of it as having a connection to todays holiday at the time, but now it is inescapable. Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus declared, I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Today is a holiday specifically designed for those whose work is difficult, gritty and doesnt typically pay as well as wed like. Its a holiday to honor the majority of the population because most of us occupy some sort of blue collar job. Jesus also sought these types of people and he assured them that he is them. He is the one whose work was difficult, gritty and looked as though he would receive no compensation. But the resurrection changed everything! It made his promise a reality. In him, through faith in him, we receive the greatest of all rewards. Our work in him is to trust in his work for us. Let us have a child like trust in his love for us.
