Yesterday at the courthouse the Judge asked if any of us wanted to say anything. I know youll all be shocked, but I was too emotional to speak. I listened to the caseworkers and attorney say beautiful things about Matt and Nicole. The Judge was so impressed and thanked them, commenting on the special calling on their lives. Dear friends, Papa Jim Rathbun and Linda Neuman - who have been in our lives since Nicole was an infant - made lovely speeches. I wanted to...but the emotion was choking me. So here is my two-cents worth - a day late - for Matt and Niki. I am so honored to be mom to you and grandma to your children. You have made my life richer, fuller and so beautiful. I admire, respect, and love you so very much. And dad and I commit to do this with you. To support you in raising these ten Homanites to be healthy, happy, loving and godly men and women of God. Thank you for this incredible blessing! Nikis joy over being a mom is perfectly captured below. She loves it even on the really hard days. This is her favorite joband greatest thrill. Her children know that. What a gift her love is to them! Matt is equally committed and happy about being daddy to the crew, but brings steady calm. He is the rock for his family - a secure and safe place. He is that for my daughter too which blesses my heart so much. His heart for the fatherless reaches into the church and community and embraces all of the children there. God was so good to give him to our family! Enough said. :) Except...Nikis picture reflects how I feel too.
