Yesterday, before I was distracted by real and beautiful life, I was going to post that I think the Kurds should seek independence recognition from Israel. It would seem I could be a Kurdish diplomat after all. There is a strategic affinity between these peoples as both see statehood as a means of defence from further genocide and have proven democratic track records. The US is way behind the ball on this one, not wishing to seem to be an imperial power carving up the region (or wishing to piss off NATO member Turkey) but in the long game a Kurdish state would be a bulwark of democratic and pro Western stability in a region mired in religious-conflict and barbarity. The region is currently being taken the bold; sadly currently the bold seem to be the most ruthless and Islamic extremist. It is time for the West to be as bold and support those with like interests. Israel, always bold, has made the first move. theguardian/world/2014/jun/29/israel-prime-minister-kurdish-independence
