Yesterday during our temple library cleanup I randomly cracked - TopicsExpress

Yesterday during our temple library cleanup I randomly cracked open a book on séances. I have acquired the book earlier this year at a pre-loved booksale. In the few passages I have read, the author talked about two types of mediumship back in the heyday of spiritualism: public and private mediumship. Interestingly it stated that an overwhelming majority of public mediumship demonstrators came from a certain social background. It just made me think whether that observation would still be valid today. While public mediumship demonstrations carried an entry fee, which provided the medium with an income they also came with a certain pressure to produce evidence while private mediums, as the word suggests, would demonstrate in small, regular circles of their own for no charge at all and for the learning and developmental benefit for those who sat in those circles. There was no day to day pressure to produce evidence and according to the author the emphasis was on learning as well as on personal experiences.
