Yesterday evening, Marcus and I were at D7 The Refinery, when a young man in black tee and jeans together with a beautiful lady in a blue dress walked past by on their way to have a cup of coffee nearby. I stopped them and show them my book. I have no idea who they were. I did this to everyone who walked past the table where I usually display my book, hoping one or two might like to read and buy my book. Both gave us a wide friendly smile. Then he took out his laptop and show us a video showing his work. Only after this, I learned that he is Zung Heng, the photographer. Some people called him the ninja photographer. You see, Zung is different from other photographers. He came from a small fishing village called Sekinchan in Selangor. Dropped out from college, he taught himself to use the camera. And he took photos differently. He emphazises on simplicity and made sure his work contains a very important element - the soul. It was hard work for him and nothing else . Rain or shine, he would go to work on a motorcyle. He does not even have a proffesional agent to market him. He relies on recommentation. It was the famous motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, who gave Zung his break. Zung got to be his official photographer. And went go to take photos for other famous people like Donald Trump, Andrea Boccelli, Richard Branson and the 14th Dalai Lama. Zung had travelled to many countries in the world to take photos and he specializes in wedding photos. Today, Zung is not your regular photographer. He is an international award winning photographer and gets to work with some of the most famous people in the world. Whats your advice to excel? I asked him and he was very generous in sharing his experience. Do not be afraid to have big dreams. Be prepared to suffer for it. This small town boy has certainly came a long way.
