Yesterday, had a young gal knock on the door asked if my wife was - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, had a young gal knock on the door asked if my wife was at home, said she was here to see her. I said yeah, she asks if she can step in, my white German Shepherd is at the door, asks if she will bite, I say yeah, if Im not here she very well could bite. I go to get Mary Jane, she then asks if she can step inside. I say yeah, Mary Jane comes and asks me who the woman is, I have no idea. Meanwhile I am getting ready for me and Lloyd to go to the movie. I step out and hear this woman talking about all kinds of things, mainly free carpet cleanings, no cost, no obligation, the whole bit. As I am walking out the door, I feel uncomfortable, mention to Mary Jane, tell her to leave, (I should have done it) In the conversation she asks Mary Jane a strange question, I mention, we dont have problems like that because we have the dog and guns in the house that I would use. As I get into the car, I see two other men going door to door, I stop, not feeling comfortable, call 911, give them a description of all 3, including the tag number. I get home and Mary Jane tells me she had to tell the woman to basically leave, she asked for a bottle of water, followed her into the kitchen uninvited and so forth. Folks say there is never a reason for a gun in the house, they are wrong, the police were very suspicious of these 3 people who we both gave a good description to, I also had Mary Jane call the police, they were glad we did (the police). Let me make something clear, there is always someone in our house as we keep people we have done extensive background checks on, we have a security system for when we arent here, along with a dog that has been trained to attack if we are not at home. She is great while we are here, but dogs can not only make great pets, big dogs when trained can provide great protection. As good as protection is with a dog and security system is though, I also trust a shotgun and handgun. Lesson for me learned, after making it clear to the young woman in our house last night, we will protect ourselves and our property. She was kind of shocked that I said that, but I think she may know, if checking out a home to rob or something like that with her friends, it is likely that if they break into someone elses home, it will be a home where they know there isnt a big dog that will bite and an owner who has a gun. Now I know I am supposed to love others, and I do, but I am also keenly aware, I have an obligation to my family and my guests who may not be here for illegal purposes. I know a long rant, but dont make the mistake I did yesterday in not telling someone without a sales permit and asking pretentious questions to get the heck out of my house as I am calling 911 during that conversation.
