Yesterday, hours BEFORE the official announcement of the fuel - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, hours BEFORE the official announcement of the fuel price reduction, Rafizi Ramli had declared that based on his calculations the January fuel prices should be reduced to RM1.91 per litre for RON95 petrol and RM1.94 per litre for diesel. He said he arrived at these figures from his study of legal data on standard market rates used within the region. tinyurl/lhnuvtf His prediction was highly accurate as the official announcement hours later was RM1.91 for RON 95 (100% accurate) and RM1.93 for diesel (just 1sen lower than Rafizis prediction). SYABAS! Rafizi, you MS Excel worked this time. However, it doesnt mean Rafizi is a genius. The reason why he could predict this is PROOF that the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) put in place is fair and transparent and based on known regional market pricing - hence Rafizi should no longer mempertikaikan our fuel pricing policy. Our APM pricing is based on the average of the previous months pricing and not just the last days pricing. When MOPS pricing is on a downtrend for the previous month, this months petrol prices will mean a small tax gain by the government BUT if last months MOPS pricing was on an uptrend, then government will use whatever small tax gain to subsidize petrol prices for this month. In the long-run, this model will even-up the taxes and subsidies for the various months. - basically a model of sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. A monthly managed float also gives Malaysia markets an amount of pricing certainty that daily floating prices would not since most Malaysian consumers and business people are not used to fuel prices that goes up and down everyday. Rafizi Ramli, since you yourself have proven that this APM model is transparent and predictable, then you should NOT accuse our govt of collecting Secret Fuel Taxes and confuse and mislead zombies. Thats very dishonest of you and it seems designed to incite hatred as you did not say that if MOPS pricing is on the uptrend, the govt will have to spend this secret taxes to subsidize the petrol prices in those months. Also, Rafizi and his supporters should not claim credit that it was Pakatan Rakyat who had successfully pressured govt to reduce fuel prices to RM1.91. If your guling2 pressure techniques had worked then the 2013 dataran merdeka TURUN and various 20sen demos would have meant the fuel price increase in November 2013 would have been reversed. Not only did govt ignore your futile protests, but govt further increased fuel prices by another 20sen in Oct 2014 just to spite you, make fun of you and show you how useless your protests were. Subsequently, govt took advantage of the falling world oil prices and made the brave decision to end fuel subsidies and let the market decide.
